A fun way to do a dresden plate!  I was watching this quilt at a local flea market for over a year.  Finally the price dropped and I scooped this baby up!  I think it is a SO cheerful and what a fun way to put a dresden plate together!

I learn so much from old quilts!!! :)

my smallest quilt

I stopped buying quilts some time ago--when you live in a teeny tiny cottage, there is only so much space to store things properly.  So it is surprising that I found something I just had to have yesterday.  I was at a regular sewing store and just stopped across the way for a brief moment to say hello to an old friend and there it was---weighing in at 8.5 inches square.  I'm not sure why the quilted shoe prints in the corner but they sorta remind me of Charlie Chaplin or Laurel and Hardy.  Anyway, I can always find room for such a sweet thing:

Rain at last!

If you hear a great big "Aaaaah" from the Northeast, it's the fact that we finally have rain...and a good soaking rain at that.  It's the first morning I haven't had to rush outside to water first thing in the morning and I'm delighted!  Been catching up with blogs.

The Nana Memory quilt is coming along well and I'll blog about that later today or tomorrow.  In the meantime, have a great day!

Bundle up!

Its cold and going to get much colder! I've been having some hand/shoulder pain so this is my brief howdy. I posted this because my Nana always said that the color red was a "too hot". She was always warm and the color red made her warmer :) This is a good thing this weekend....Bundle up and stay warm!

St. Stephens Day

I had taken Seamus to the nursing home on Christmas Eve day to visit Nana. Then she was whisked off to my cousins house for Christmas Day. Today the whole family descended on her (we rented a dining room in the home) and celebrated Christmas with her. What a nice day. We had some sad news today as my great-uncle has passed. He was 88 years old and lived longer than any of his siblings. My heart goes out to his children and all his many grandchildren who adored him....

Autumn Approaches.......

The days are shorter. It has gotten brisk and damp. It seems the days of Autumn approach. I gave up lamenting about the end of summer long ago and now just prepare for a season of sewing, baking and garden reorganizing.

I'll miss the hummingbirds. My desk is aside of the window and I can look out and see them dipping their beaks, warding off bees, and resting on the perch of the feeder. We had a baby hummer this year and I just adored watching him grow. Hopefully, he will remember where the good eating joints are next summer.

Our granddaughter began kindergarten this year and now we don't babysit her during the week. In some ways, this is a good thing. I have a lot of other family members to check on and I need to catch up with some much needed household chores.

And the sewing! There is so much to be done in my room that I can barely move because of the piles. I need a few good weeks of my husband away on business to get some more done ;). This week he is going fishing so I should catch up a little bit. Meanwhile, Christmas approaches and I am still debating about the dog quilt I am making for BIL and his wife. More on that later.

Well we are off to visit friends today and take our Helena out to lunch to hear all about her first week of school! Should be fun :)

So busy.........

Working, working , working! So I thought I would just share these old bunnies from a vintage child's quilt for you :) I love the umbrella fabric too! I think it must have been made before the baby was born, one side has a blue bunny, the other has the two pink! Enjoy and have a great day!

A Very Full Day

It's been a very full day here at 3P & N! Because Brad was home and babysitting Paddie, I could work outside a bit. So I FINALLY got some grass seed down, and surrounded it with some small fencing to keep the dogs out.

And of course, I went to K-mart for some back-up to deter the dogs in the grass and some of the craziness they have been doing lately. K-mart was having a sale.... so I got me a super soaker. I don't' even have to use it, the dogs learned in 1 minute; they don't like to be squirted with the hose or anything else. So there is a new sheriff in the garden now.

I also got the sod up from the edge of the garden and Brad put the stone down.

He also moved the bench for me. Okay, it may look out of proportion with the sapling but gardening is all about seeing the possibilities....some day we will be glad that bench is there under our shady tree.

Also went to my favorite flea market to take some flyers for our quilt study group. Got one good bargain there! This sunbonnet (sorta) child's quilt. I collect sunbonnet sue patterns and I didn't have this one. I wondered if it was a kit quilt but I am doubting it now that I got it home. I still need to look it up in the big book of SBS patterns...

The arms are a bit off but I love the pattern and the details, like the curls on the girl......

Not sure what he is holding, maybe a bubble blower? Lolly? magnifying glass? Each figure has tiny buttons on it, you can see them on this one..

This is the unusual part, this quilt has pink binding and was made for a boy. It's been a very satisfying day. Brad made dinner for us and I am going to relax ...
