I Like Thursdays: July 30, 2022

Happy Thursday!

Today we celebrate all that is good in the world!  If you need a pick-me-up, visit Lee Anna's website for more Thursday bloggers!

I finished the 18 doll quilts and 9 doll pillows I wanted to make for the little girls in my family.  It was the most fun I've had sewing in a long time and I got to use all kinds of things from my stash.

I posted more photos over at my Pennsylvania Piecemaker blog here.

Other things that make me happy include seeing my brother putter around in the pond that he built and loves so much.  He's been ill for so very long but it's good to see him doing something more normal.  This year he added floating planters to the pond and they add such a nice charm!

My neighbor introduced me to a new candy that I love!  I'm not often enthused about candy but I like the fruit flavors of the mamba candy!  I gave some to my mom and now she loves them too!

The garden continues to please me with new things blooming every day like these coneflowers!

Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday!

 Happy Thursday!  Happy Thoughts!

The week has been full of interesting wildlife!

Scout's friend Tinkerbell has been driving everyone crazy trying to get into forbidden parts of the yard.  Turns out little Tink realized that this baby bunny was living there.  The bunny is wary of the dogs but seems unafraid of people.  Scout hasn't really been aware of the bunny--she's not exactly the world's best hunter.  😂

I was at the doctor's on Monday.  I am feeling better.  But I looked out the window and saw (2 blocks away) the rooftop of an apartment building filled with turkey vultures.

There were at least a dozen of them up there.  I marveled how this vulture or that kept standing there with it's wings outstretched.  They could stand like that for minutes!  I wondered if it was to defend the committee of vultures there.  Turns out that this behavior has a name, "the horaltic pose" and vultures do that early in the morning to warm themselves.  I just love learning new things, don't you?

Scout and I continue our walks and she is feeling better as well.  We were surprised on our walk on Tuesday when we encountered a dove.  Mourning doves are very common around here.  They always seem to be in my yard.  But this dove was different:

I was worried it was injured because it didn't fly away when it saw Scout and I.  But it was fine--and glorious to watch when it did finally fly off!

The Rose Garden is attached to our walking path and it is another favorite of ours.

The rose gardens here always have had signs that notated the name of the rose.  Now there's even a gadget you can scan to tell you more about the rose!

Happy Thursday!

Today bloggers share positive energy during "I like Thursdays."
Hosted by Lee Anna, please visit the other bloggers as well for a little pick-me-up today!

This week I received a gift from Nann from With Strings Attached!  Isn't this baby coverlet adorable?  I love the little details of this piece and appreciate the thoughtful gift so much!  Thank you Nann!

Scout and I are both feeling better.  We're back to taking longer walks in the morning and the photo above is our favorite park to visit.

I like sewing.  I've been doing machine sewing this week on the doll quilts for the little girls in our family.  There are 6 little girls and 1 grandmother that I am gifting doll quilts.  I'm making each one 2 quilts.   I am having so much fun making these and using up some doo-dads in my stash as well.  It's a joy!  Most of the little girls will see each other in early July so I have a deadline.

I'm happy in my little garden and enjoying the changes that happen each and every day.

Wishing you a happy and safe weekend!

I Like Thursdays: June 9, 2022

Happy Thursday everyone!  It's time for our weekly "I like" posts and fill the internet with happy energy.  For more positive posts, visit Lee Anna at Not Afraid of Color!

It's been a weird week.  Scout and I have been recuperating together.  Scout had to be taken to the vet on Monday morning she has a UTI and an infection in one of her anal glands.  Then I pulled my upper back and that left me incapacitated.  The pain went radiated up into my neck and was really painful (fortunately it was muscular and not a structural problem).  If you are going to be unable to do much, it's always helpful that your dog is under the weather as well. For the most part, both of us spent the week sleeping.

But there is good news to focus on.  The ducklings have hatched at the park!

The ducklings are so tiny and there are two different broods at the lake.  They are fun to watch!

The goslings are getting to be quite lanky although they still have their baby fuzz.  The are less inclined to listen to Mama and are constantly feeding, feeding, feeding.  Mama goose often has to flap her wings to get them out of the way of the approaching dog.
They are acting like teenagers.  😀

That's all I have for this week.
Wishing you a safe and happy weekend!

Happy Thursday!  It's time to post things that make us happy and share them on the internet.  For more positive thoughts, check out Lee Anna's blog for more happy posts!

I like early morning walks with Scout at the park.  We got to see our doggy friend Cleetus one day.  We hadn't seen him since before the pandemic.  Cleetus was a good friend of my late dog Seamus; we often walked together.

I'm enjoying watching the baby geese grow.  This week we got to see the goslings in the water:

Scout is usually unaware of the goslings.  But it's funny to watch Mama Goose whenever we walk along the path.  She bobs her head up and down and forces the goslings out of the way of the approaching dog.  The closer we get, the faster her head bobs up and down as if she is saying, "hurry up children, I told you to MOVE before the big black dog arrives!"

The garden is doing well, lots of rain lately and some seriously warm temperatures this week.

The heat means we are indoors by 11 a.m.  I'm doing more sewing and that is always a good thing!

Wishing you the very best weekend!
Have a safe and happy day!
