23 days until Spring!

I admit it, I am yearning for Spring at this point.  The few weeks I've not been able to walk the dogs (either weather or illness) has got me singing the winter blues.  Today is beautiful though so we walked down to the park.  The ice is melting off the pond..

And the willows are yellow with fresh spring buds!  Maybe the groundhog was right and we will have an early spring after all....

In other things, I've pulled these extra blocks to finish another UFO.  I found this asian fabric with black, red, and orange at our local store and am playing with ideas on how to assemble the quilt.  I had a few votes for this look:

A few for the addition of a black border around the new asian inspired fabric:

But last night I played with putting four of the blocks together, assembling it on point and completing it (possibly) with  grey sashing.  I think this is my favorite idea so far.  Well I'm off to the sewing room to mull these options over while I machine quilt a mini-quilt.  What do you think?

Happy Birthday George!

Happy Birthday George Washington!  Today is GW's birthday!  Anyway I always remember his birthday because it was the same as my childhood friend, Gary.

And just where would great men be without great women behind them?  Here's Martha:

Lastly, there was GW's Mom, Mary Ball Washington.  About her George would say:
"My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother."  I don't have a redwork of Mary so we'll just give her some flowers:
Have a great day everyone!

Still catching up...

The problem with getting sick is that you have to catch up with everything so I am waaaaay behind--plus I caught a cold on the tale of the flu.  Now hubby has flu but he is working in California and although he is on the mend, I hope he doesn't bring a different flu home :(

At this point, I'm just eager to get back to work and my sewing.  Also have lots of blogs to catch up on, I've missed you all!
Hugs and have a happy day!

Heading to health

Well I'm back after a bout of flu.  Glad that is gone and hoping that now that the days that are longer mean that the ground hog didn't lie!  This is what I was working on before I became ill.  It's an old British pattern and it features a Noah's Ark and animals.  I sent it to our friend Martha and she cleaned up the transfer and it's on her website, q is for Quilter.  Check it out if you want a copy of the pattern and thanks Martha for cleaning it up for us!!!
