old transfers...do you recognize them?

I am in search of pattern sources for some embroidery I have.  If you know anything about which company may have made any of these patterns, can you give me a holler?  I know that a lot of my buddies in blog land collect the old transfers as I do so I thought I would give a shout out!  Thanks in advance for looking!

sorry this one has faded threads but the chicks are climbing into the little barn or hen house.

Dear Sam and Katie,

I thought you might like to know that there is a bird living in the blue bird house which I think Sam might have made.  The house is almost split in half but the bird still seems to appreciate the shelter.  I'm thinking a winter project might be in order next year.  We could all use some new bird houses on this part of our street
Brad said she needs a perch on this one, but I think it is showing wear as well.  So Sam and Katie if you are interested, let me know and I will keep an eye out for bird house supplies.

Wednesday's wonderful blog!

Wednesday's Wonderful Blog this week belongs to....
SANDRA!!
She's at Sandra  Sews and she inspires and delights me...and a whole lot of other people. She is always sewing something neat and loves to learn plus she's a good teacher too!   She may be one of the more industrious people on the webs, always posting things she has finished.  Sandra also has a good heart and donates a lot of her goodies to fantastic causes.
Thanks for inspiring us all Sandra!

Enduring themes

What do you see when you eat?  Do you admire your setting, floral arrangement or the yummy food on your plate?  When my husband and I eat, this is what we see a lot of :

Before Helena was in school, she would come here everyday.  She had her own entourage, especially when she was eating:
Of course, Helena confused the dogs as well:
And all these memories surfaced today when I was reading a Peterson's Magazine from the 1800s and saw this illustration.  It made me laugh because it is soooo truthful and I hope you enjoy it too!

How hot is it?

Hot enough that even the squirrels are laying around.   :)
I caught this fellow taking a break this afternoon.  Apparently squirrels do this in heat waves to help stay cool.  I can't blame him for taking a siesta, everyone should in this heat.

I have 29 dog houses done for my quilt but it is too hot to be working in the attic anymore.
Even with central air, it becomes hot in that little back room of mine so I am back downstairs with the dogs and cleaning out my cupboards.   I just finished some broccoli salad and have some nice jello in the fridge.  I just love jello in this heat.
Stay cool and stay safe!

Friday sweltering sew in

I don't usually participate in the Friday Night Sew Ins mostly because I usually do some embroidery each night while hanging with the family and watching the game.
Last night I finished this block:
But it is sweltering here (just like most of the country) and tomorrow should even be worse.  I thought I would get some blocks done tonight too.   I'd like to make an child's quilt for our local oncology ward using this dog house pattern.  It's paper pieced (very relaxing) plus I have a ton of dog fabric and scraps to use up.  I think this would be a fun quilt for a child.
Of course it is important to have some fun while you are putting together this kind of quilt so I hope to add a few blocks with some whimsy like sneaking in a cow or two and maybe some other animals as well.
How are you staying cool?

Fourth of July

I've been featuring some of the blocks from Hilda Kromer's redwork quilt.  This one seems to be fitting for today...

Our son did some work for a friend and his friend wanted to repay him.  So he offered him a bean bag chair...
yeh it is huge!  More like a bean bag couch or two :)
Too hot to be outside so we had the party indoors, including the tent:
Can you believe how big Helena is?  I gotta figure this phone camera thing better, got a video of her when i meant to get a photo:

STAY COOL!
