Hibernating

I'm hanging indoors right now.  I don't have much of a choice. I have horrible reactions to mold and right now, all this incessant rainfall has sparked off some allergies for me.  My Nana described this kind of allergic reaction as "a tightening in the chest."  All I know is I can't stop honking and lose my voice quickly. I'm used to it so I know that if I just wait for a 24 hour dry spell, I'll be able to garden again.  For now, I'm SEWING!!!

Have a great day!

A soggy holiday

I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday.  Here in Allentown PA, we are enduring a very wet holiday weekend.  I have to tell you that this year was among the best for rose blooms.....until these storms hit and hit and hit some more.  Our poor Mayfair is still going on but no one must be there because there aren't any cars on our road this weekend.

At least my husband is able to be home.  He has a very sore shoulder so I'm assisting him as well.  Well there is thunder again so I'm off the computer for now.  Hope your weekend weather is better than ours!

Vintage Monday

Nothing new this morning so thought I would post some photos from my scrap book.  It's a wonderful rainy day here in Pennsylvania and you can almost hear the plants sigh with happiness.

As for the "accident"  I backed into a pole, no major physical trauma, just a pain in the wallet :(   I'll be focusing on good things today.  That's the best I can do!

Batter Up!!!

It's Baseball season!  We left attended Helena's game yesterday, doesn't she look wonderful!!!  That's her Daddy behind her.  The team had been undefeated until yesterday but the girls seem to take their loss in stride.  Afterwards we had lunch with the kids, then visited Lori and Scott.  It was a grand day...

That is until I went grocery shopping and scrapped DH's car :(   I'll be hanging out in the garden and sewing   for therapy a while.  I know it can happen and that is why it is called "accident" but I don't feel better about scrapping DH's "baby".  He's been wonderful about it but I still feel really awful about it.
Hope you have a wonderful Sunday!  I'll be doing wash and sewing for most of today but will hang out in the garden as much as possible

Thank goodness it's Friday

It's been a very eventful (and expensive) week of dogs this week but we made it through.  But fortunately...
Ted is feeling better.

We have one last road trip today.

Seamus is getting his annual today at the vet's.  You can tell how excited he is:
"Oh Goodie, more shots."
Hope you have a wonderful day!

Happy Mother's Day Give-Away!

Happy Mother's Day Everyone!!!
I hope you all have a great and relaxing day!

In honor of Mother's Day, I thought I would offer a give away to all my wonderful followers!
This is particularly significant if you enjoy embroidery as much as I do.

Some of you know that I have been collecting old embroidery patterns for ages and was fortunate to inherit some from my grandmothers as well.  Well recently I acquired a bag of vintage transfers from a friend's family member:

I weighed the bag, it is over 2 lbs of transfers!   We want to see that they go to a good home.  No, I won't even look in the bag because it is too tempting and I promised my husband I would pass it on, not store it.....

Because I love sunbonnets, I will even add some sunbonnets to the mix:
Of course there will be the usual addition of fat quarters and thread for the winner but mostly I want someone who loves embroidery to take the bag.  How to win?  Just leave a comment on this thread if you are a follower of the blog...maybe tell me how old you were when you began embroidering!  Winner will be chosen on May 15, my son Peter's birthday...because he made a Mama out of me;  I even went into labor on Mother's Day!
Good luck and have a wonderful day!

Show time!

I love quilt shows, it's like being a kid again and going to the county fair.  So here are some of my bargains from the Colonial Show:
Three Antique/Vintage Quilt tops:
This star one I think I am going to finish.  I love the happy colors in it!  Also...check out my new rug, tried to get part of it in the pic ;)
This top is adorable, isn't it?  There are 56 blocks already made up; all were done by hand.  I think I might make two smaller quilts out of it because I have some of the peach and blue polka dotted fabric.  There is actually enough fans to make some more blocks but I don't see making it bigger, I see making it smaller.  Anyway, I love it!
I also got a crazy quilt.  It was very reasonable because it was in tough condition, but it had these intriguing squares.  I'm guessing they were cigarette silks--
He's having a swell tell time.
Notice the jug has "Water" on it.  Not sure if this an ironic wink at the Temperance movement or based on something else like a joke (noticed well is underlined) or political innuendo.
May we kiss whom we please and please whom we kiss!
"Catch me if you can" is actually embroidered.

today's happiness in the garden...

The last tulips of the spring are beginning to fade and the rose bushes are full of buds.  This weekend the weigela began blooming!

My garden happiness today is actually Denise's garden.  I was mowing and looked over at her border and thought how perfect it looked right now, so much so that I took two photos of it, doesn't it look restful?

I did some gardening today but after weeks of hard physical work and a quilt show, I'm ready for a break.  Think I will just relax and work on embroidery, at least during the next few rainy days.  I do have a couple of programs to do this week but I can live with everything else for now.  Hope you have a great day!

Quilt Fest 2012!!!

Mom is still at Colonial Quilters Quilt Show!  Fortunately, we have a very nice person named Naomi hanging with us while she is working the show!  We love you Naomi, thanks!

Want a nice visit to a great quilt show?  Head over to the Chrin Community Center at:  4100 Green Pond Rd.,Palmer, PA 18045 (Palmer is near Bethlehem/Easton)
We will be open today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

So far lots of people have been complimenting our show!  The comments have been mostly focused on the quality of the quilts exhibited (I think over 200 are displayed).  But we also have a great selection of vendors at the show, plus our own boutique which seems to be doing a booming business as well.  Lots of folks carrying big packages of bargains!!!

Anyway, stop on by for a nice visit!  I'm usually at the Appraiser Table, so stop on by and say "Hi!" if you are around!

Our rugs are coming!

After Christmas, DH encouraged me to buy new rugs for the living room and dining room.   I've wanted some new rugs for some time but could never decide on what to get.  Anyway, I think it was my husband's way to make me feel better after we lost Greta.

So Monday we got a great phone call, the rugs are in early!  I spent all day scrubbing, painting wood work and moving furniture.  They should be coming sometime this morning and I can't wait!!!

Feeling pretty sore these days, my husband is out of the country and I've done all the mulching, placed the fresh stone, and now painted and moved furniture.  Could be worse though, I could be looking at these old rugs for another month.  The oldest one?  Yeh that is from 1978 and we definitely got our moneys worth out of it.

Have a great day!

Happy May Day!

I love May, love the month, love the weather, and the longer days.  My son was born in May; all good things seem to happen in spring and the garden is always fantastic this month.  The pups and I are living outside.  It's raining ever so gently here so I am going to bake cookies for the guild show, get the damp out of the house.  Hope you have a wonderful May Day!
