Prayers please

Some of you know my friend Carol.  She's my quilter neighbor buddy who takes care of her dad and autistic older brother full time.  She's also a babysitter for Scout when I have to do lectures.
She could really use some prayers right now.

She has suffered from a brain bleed and is the neuro ICU at out local hospital.  Prayers and good thoughts would be really appreciated by all.
I'll post more when I have news.

Inspired by you!

Thank you Mary from MIP Handmade and Diann from Little Penguin Quilts ! You inspired me to do some sewing.  It was too hot on Sunday to work in the garden so I put together a quilt top. Diann in particular has been showing me that anything is possible from leftover fabrics.

So I put together a top using scraps from two different quilts I made for my nieces when they were teenagers.  The colors worked well together!  It's not huge but it is big enough for a donation quilt for a child in the hospital.

The white was left over pieces from backing fabric I had used and I was just lucky to have some fabric in my stash that I could use to make a border!

LeeAnna from Not Afraid of Color sent me some funny memes but I loved this one and will use it somewhere:

Thanks to the precious bloggers and quilters who keep me motivated.  I'm off to the garden to work......
Have a great day!

Some finishes

Apologies for the dark photos.  It's very hot here and we don't turn on lights unless absolutely necessary!
 Rose quilt is done!
Many thanks to Carol who did the binding when my hands were all gnarled up!  This is for my sewing room (the rose room).  I'll take better photos once the heat has abated.  I love the backing for this quilt and wish I had purchased more of it at Joann's:
 Another wall hanging finished.
This piece came out of my Embroidery UFO drawer.  I should tell you that the drawer isn't full of my UFOs but those that I purchased to finish!
I think this piece was from the late 1920s-early 1930s and was filthy.  I cleaned it up and re-did the embroidery.   One less thing in the drawer!
I put the shells under it because I like the garden border :)
It's a scorcher today and also very humid.
Stay cool!

I like Thursday! June 14, 2018

What do you like this week?

I like baby ducklings.  They are so much fun to watch these days!

We have been seeing "Big Blue" one of our herons regularly too:

I like blue skies reflected in water.

I like poodle games.  It was raining and we threw the stuffy ball for Scout at my Mom's.

She tends to run away with her toys right now or a treat.  This time though, Greta went after her in another room.  For an hour we played this game.  We never did know how Greta got the ball from Scout but it was sure fun to watch them have a good time!
Speaking of Scout, she got a partial haircut.  We cut her hair on ears and tail really short because she is playing in water so much now, she can get matted.  She looks kind of silly because her head is small in relation to the rest of her body (which wasn't shaved down) but at least we don't have to worry about matting.

I like this needlepoint picture I found at an auction.  There was a note on the back saying it was made in Austria in 1937 by an eleven year old girl.  I think it is charming.  I am going to have it rematted soon.

I love this gal!
My beautiful niece Maggie who just graduated from college!
She is standing with my brother.  We had small graduation party for her last weekend.  She is going on to Georgetown for her Master's.  I am so very proud of her and just adore having her and her fiancee home.  Love you girl!

Scout and Maggie's dog Cashew always have a lot of fun playing together too!

I like the simple things this week: strawberry preserves, a freshly mowed lawn, and quiet walks with Scout.

I like swans.

I like this sewing basket.

I like the books by Mary Kerr.  She spoke at our guild again last week and we love having her.  Everyone said the same thing:  she is so inspiring.  I love her books too!

I hope you have a wonderful week. I'm in the midst of some very busy days right now but hope to visit everyone's blog today or tomorrow!
