I Like Thursdays: July 9, 2020

Good morning!  How are you today?

It's "I like Thursday" and time to fill the internet with positive energy and thoughts!  What are you grateful for today?  Join LeeAnna for more positive posts!  I know everyone needs a pick-me-up these days!

Today I am grateful for RAIN!!!!!  In the last four weeks we've only had three brief storms which dropped a total of 1/2 inch (or less) rain.  Despite watering, I've lost 4 plants already and put some in pots just to keep them going.  But yesterday we got rain and life is good again!!!

The mystery hydrangea continues to fascinate me.  This week the oldest pink bloom turned a deep rose!  Isn't it pretty?

My mom has a small pond in her backyard and my brother picked up some water hyacinth for her and some fish.   My husband and I had a pond in our garden for years and always had water hyacinth but it never bloomed!  It was so neat to see the actual flowers!
We are trying to keep Mom occupied.  My brother arranged to have the three neighbor children come over to release the fish in the pond (at a social distance).  They are all under school age and already know to wear masks!

I love how books become a part of us, especially during out childhood.  My mother and brother said after the fish release, do you remember this book about the fish who grew?  I did indeed.  It was called A Fish Out of Water and delighted me as a child.
Do you remember this book?

The book is still in print so I arranged to buy it and have it shipped to the little girls as a thank you for the joy they brought my Mom last week.

I'm grateful for some tv shows these days.  PBS is now airing "Grantchester" and I like the new HGTV show, "Hot Mess House" because the host, Cass Aarssen, is so uplifting.

I'm also grateful for all the blogging friends who visit this blog and my Pennsylvania Piecemaker blog.  Keeping connected is so important and I'm grateful that LeeAnna started "I Like Thursdays"; I've gotten to know some wonderful people! Thank you friends!

Have a safe and happy week!

My mystery hydrangea is also going to be pink. This is the first morning in a while that my husband hasn't had to water the garden. We, too were grateful for yesterday's rain.

Hi Michele! The mystery hydrangea is gorgeous. I love that deep rose. I've never seen a water hyacinth before. Does it smell fragrant like the land version? What a sweet gesture of the girls to release the fish, and for you to send the book. Your mom looks like she is doing well! Yay for that. We had a good rain just Tuesday night - the first in weeks so we really needed it. It seems like it's just enough to keep everything going for a while. ~smile~ Roseanne

OMG, yes, rain! It's a wonderful thing. I love your hydrangea blossoms. How fun to find old childhood books. :-) Yay for Grantchester, too.

Your mystery hydrangea just keeps getting prettier! I'm glad it is finally blooming! How fun for your mom to have a pond with fish and plants in it, too. I bet those fish can be entertaining! I enjoy our Thursday group of posters, too - it's another nice way to connect with people. Have a great Thursday, Michele!

Mickie I watched the end of PBS VOTE on suffrage this week. I had no idea about some of the facts, and the bravery and perserverance it took. Almost not happening. And the number of countries who allowed women to vote, before the great country of America did. Oy vey. They mentioned the reason most southern men didn't want to vote for it was they thought they would lose white supremacy because then black women could vote. grrrrrrr

I've been meaning to say how much I like your header picture. And this mystery plant is such a pretty colour. We have not had any amount of rain for over two weeks now. I have to hose everything down every day. How grand for your mom to have a pond and now fish. Delightful! How kind you are to gift the children. Thank you for mentioning Grantchester...I've had that on an old list for years. Must check it out. Yes, these connections are meaningful even though online.

I love mystery plants! I picked up a couple on clearance (I can never resist the 1$ almost dead midsummer clearance plants) at the store last week and can't wait to see if they'll bloom. I think one will but I'm not sure what it is!

Hi Michelle. What a great post especially those flowers. How cool to share all that with your mom!
Please send that rain down here.
I’m watching Grantchester a second time and also other PBS repeats. I’m desperate for good tv.

Enjoy that garden.
