I Like Thursdays: December 18, 2025

2 days until winter!

It's "I like Thursdays" and time to fill the internet with some much needed positive things.  What do you like today?

It snowed Saturday night into Sunday.  I don't mind these storms as much anymore.  I found something I really like:

They are called Yaxtrax and you adhere them to your shoes or boots for traction in ice and snow.  AND THEY WORK!

As a senior, I'm always concerned about a fall impeding my freedom.  Couple that with the fact that my dog will not go to the bathroom without walking for a while--it could be trecherous.  I'm still careful with the Yaxtrax on my boot but I have to tell you, I've never slipped with them on.

I like my humidifier.  We haven't had one in a while and it's really helping.  When I was a kid, I remember my grandmother putting pans of water on her radiators to keep moisture in the air.  But her radiators were 2-3 times the depth of mine.  I'm really noticing a big difference since I began using mine.

Lana's prompt this week is:  "Do you like red and green? does it lift your spirits? what shades do you like best?

I do love red and green at the holidays. I especially like the vintage red and green from the 50s and early 60s.

After the holidays, I still have to admit I love red.  I wasn't quilting with it often because it bothered my eyes (it doesn't anymore).  I would have to say the one color I don't like is orange (sorry autumn people).

I'm hoping to do a red and pink quilt in the new year.  Anyway, that is all I have for this week!

Have a safe and happy weekend!

I Like Thursdays: December 11, 2025

Hello and welcome to another edition of "I Like Thursdays" sponsored by LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color.

This week I appreciate that our car is fixed.  Murphy's Law dictates that when my husband mentions we should think about getting another car---the old car has problems.  We took it to our mechanic last week and it was fine for about 30 minutes and the check engine light went on again.  Took it back and it is fine now.  Whew!

I was sick this week.  I'm grateful that for once I could just focus on geting better.  My husband walked Lucky.  My brother made me a pot of chicken-lemon-orzo soup which was fantastic and really healing.  I also rested and watched bad tv shows.  However, I credit the soup for healing me!  😃

This season I am taking it way easy.  I did decorate...a wee bit last weekend.

Lana's prompt this week:  "The holidays can be stressful...What always calms you down when you’re really stressed out and upset?"

I tire of holiday movies and crafts.  After a while, it's like too much candy.  I unwind by playing music in the sewing room or when I'm cleaning.  I use Pandora for Film Scores.  When I was working, I just wanted to hear music without words and started listening tosoundtracks.  It's been over 20 years and I still prefer music without words.

I was rather surprised this last year when I heard Kate from The Last Homely House mention that she likes to listen to soundtracks as well.  Do you listen to music in the sewing room?  What kind of music do you like?

Have a safe and happy weekend!

I Like Thursdays: December 4, 2025

It's December already!  Today is "I like Thursday" and time to celebrate what is good in our lives.

We had a snow day on Tuesday which meant staying at home and doing some sewing and cooking.  I was happy with my progress!

I love our neighbors.  Our car has a check engine light on and went into the garage today.  Our neighbor lent one of their cars to us and the other neighbor said if the car isn't ready by tomorrow (when DH has his doctor's appointment), to take theirs.  I am very lucky!

My sewing is going well.  I made a number of bowl cozies for my mother to gift to her friends.  We ordered bowls to put in them and will fill them with candy.  It's a challenge to take my mother shopping and I'm more hesitant when it can be slick in places.  I'm working on using up a lot of 1930s reproduction scraps and have a few more things to make for Christmas.

Lana's prompt this week is games we like to play.  We used to play pinochle regularly with Lori and Scott until he passed.  The girls always beat the boys and it was always a blast.  In the neighborhood, a bunch of used to play Rummikub but again, one of our friends passed and we haven't had the heart since.

Wishing you a safe and happy weekend!  Stay warm!
