I Like Thursdays: July 29, 2021

Good Morning!  It's "I Like Thursdays" and time to post positive things on the internet! Be sure to read other blog posts via our hostess Lee Anna!

I've been spending these balmy days either watering the garden or binding quilts inside.  Today is wonderfully overcast with rain expected later.  We really need the rain so I am grateful!

I love my new addition to the garden: a perennial hibiscus.   I've wanted for years and bought one this season.  It has not disappointed!

I liked this book I read by Trevor Noah:

I liked the opening ceremonies of the Olympics!  It's always fun to see the colorful flags and costumes the athletes wear!

Loving the fresh produce of the season!  Watermelon, fresh cucumbers, and my hubby's favorite, corn on the cob!

Wishing you a weekend of fun and good health!  Stay safe!

I like Thursdays: July 22, 2021

Happy Thursday!  Today many bloggers celebrate the positive part of life with our hostess, Lee Anna at Not Afraid of Color!

Today we are grateful we got rain yesterday.  The storms weren't long but they were torrential when they passed through and gave the garden a deep soak.  Today it's not as humid and a great day to work in the garden.

We've had a variety of butterflies in the garden during the last two weeks!  It's always fun to see them here!

Two good friends!  Tinkerbell is my neighbor's dog and she and Scout get along really well.  They are like 2 year old kids.  They mostly just enjoy watching and barking at the squirrels in the neighborhood.  Tinker of course does the most barking and often Scout just sits there as folks walk by.  We tell them Tink has to protect the big dog 😁

Today is so beautiful...not humid and cool and a perfect day to work in the garden so I'm off!

Have a lovely day!

To-Do-Tuesday: July 20, 2021

It's To-Do-Tuesday and time to link up goals with our hostess Chris at Chrisknits!

My only goal on my list was to begin Rowan's quilt which I did.  I have a few rows left to piece before assembling the top completely.

The revolving quilt door:   As soon as I finish quilts, they seem to be out the door...mostly because it is summer and people have been coming home lately. Right now I'm working on my great niece's quilt.  She's coming for a visit next week so I'm on a deadline!

Have a safe and happy day!

I Like Thursdays: July, 15, 2021

Good Morning!

Today is Thursday and time to post positive things we like for "I like Thursdays" hosted by Lee Anna at Not Afraid of Color!

Even though Scout won't like it, she is getting groomed today and I'm sure that she will appreciate a shorter hair length once it's done!

For whatever reason, the bullfrogs are very vocal this year.  Usually they are resting near the island in the pond but for whatever reason, they are along the shoreline where the walking path is located.   Scout is not used to their "ribbbittt" yet.  Every time she hears them call, she looks around anxiously to see if something strange is approaching her.  😂😂😂😂

We have had Blue Herons at the parks for as long as I can remember but this year, we have a Great White Heron!

Bun-Bun is our rabbit in residence.  She was born in our backyard and decided to stay.  Above is a picture of her mother who was preparing her nest.  Three babies were born and one has decided to remain in our garden.  Scout is curious about her but follows the "Leave it!" command and now we have another reason to protect our sweet bunny.

I did a marathon weeding on Saturday.  The one weed that takes the most care in removing are thistles.  I knew I had one in the lower garden and had let it go until Saturday...except it was gone!

Turns out rabbits eat thistles and she must have loved it because there isn't one trace of the weed left!  Good Bun-Bun!

Well I have things to do today and wish you a happy and safe day!

To-Do-Tuesdays: July 13, 2021

I'm back from my blogging break and ready to take on To-Do-Tuesdays!  I hope you are all doing well!

I have finished a few things while I've been away, mainly some baby quilt tops to keep on hand. They are simple and use up a lot of fabric and scraps.  I got the idea from Karen in our quilt guild.  It's always good to have some baby quilts on hand!

Next week's goals:

Take a top to the quilter tomorrow for my niece Christina.  Have you ever had a project that you couldn't enthusiastically tackle?  That is what happened with me and these prints.  Christina came up a few weeks ago and was exploring my sewing room and fell in love with these blocks in my UFO drawer.  She wanted some extra black so we decided on vertical stripes.  I finished the piece over the weekend and am so relieved to get this piece out of the sewing room for now.

I'm now on a gardening break because the weeding was really bothering my wrists.  Unfortunately that means no binding as well.  So I guess that means I need to find some projects for the upcoming week.  I need to start an I-Spy quilt for my neighbor's grandson so I'll probably begin that this week!

That is all my goals for now.  I'm just drifting from project to project at times like summer clouds but that's comforting as well.  No pressure for now.

Linking up to Chris at Chrisknits!  Have a safe and happy day!

I Like Thursdays: July 8, 2021

Hi Happy Thursday!

Yes I'm back for now.  I hope you are all doing well.  I just needed a break.  It's the dog days of summer so now I'm in the house again until the weather breaks a little bit.  It's "I like Thursday" and time to post fun things on the internet.  It's hosted by Lee Anna at Not Afraid of Color so be sure to visit all the sites!!!

I like anything involving fresh fruit and vegetables in the summer time.  I made a Glazed Lemon Raspberry Bundt cake about 2 weeks ago and my husband loved it. I did have to make it more to his tastes (less lemon in the cake and used a lemon glaze instead) but he was happy with it.
Recipe is here.
My husband is still home and been working all over the house.  Now hubby, my bro, and neighbor Howie are working on changing the exterior of the house so there is an overhang above one when they enter the house.  Not having that little bit of shelter has been a pet peeve of my husband's.  So as long as my carpenter/contractor brother is involved, I'm relaxed (my husband is more along the lines of Tim The Toolman).

Scout is well and fared through another Fourth of July.  Fortunately Dad was home and she sat on the couch with him through the boomers!

My quest to keep the little boy across the street talking to me continued.  I made him a dinosaur garden with plants he liked (tactile lamb's ears and cock's comb) and of course it included his favorite:  dinosaurs!
He loved it!

This summer he has been yelling "Hi!" to me which makes my heart sing!

Other than that just weeding, sewing (not much finished yet), and pruning the garden.

I hope you are having a wonderful summer!
Have a safe and happy day!
