I Like Thursdays: May 27, 2021

Today is "I like Thursdays" and time to fill the internet with hapy thoughts!  Hosted by Lee Anna at Not Afraid of Color , you can see more positive thoughts and other participating bloggers at her blog!

Many things to like this week!  It rained yesterday!  We sure could use more but I'll take the brief storms that passed through are area last night.  An added bonus?  The rain didn't knock down my foxgloves.  Some are over five feet tall!  I was lucky they had such sturdy stems this year!

Last Sunday, I had to call over to my neighbor Janet who was in her backyard.  I told her I had a problem in my garden and needed help.  Her husband often gives me a hand when something happens that I can't handle when my husband is away...but even her husband couldn't handle this situation.

"I have a dinosaur in my backyard," I yelled.  "It's leaving eggs all over the place!"  Janet's 3-year-old grandson Gavin immediately ran to her and looked up to listen to our conversation.  "I think I need a good dinosaur hunter.  Know anyone?" I asked Janet.  Gavin immediately offered to help.

Gavin on the hunt with his faithful friend Scout.

It was so much fun to see Gavin excited and the best part was that he even talked and told us the colors of the eggs.  He has been slow to speak, is shy, and often communicates with sign language that he learned in daycare.  It was so thrilling to hear him speak!  Plus all the dinosaurs were out of my garden 😉

On Tuesday, I was able to visit my friends from guild and it was wonderful!  The guild rented a pavilion in a park and we all brought sewing and visited safely.  It was so great to see everyone!  We even got a favor!  It had tootsie roll lollipops on the top. I thought this was funny and clever:
Over at the Pennsylvania Piecemaker blog, I have a new series offered on Wednesdays.  Story Time Stitches is about children's quilts and the correlation with illustration.  Come visit if you think you might find that interesting!

Have a safe and happy day!

To-Do-Tuesday: May 25, 2021

It's To-Do-Tuesday!
I'm listing my goals for the week, checking to see how I did last week and linking up with Chrisknits!

Last week's goals: Finish mulching the garden:  DONE!
It's been 20 days since we've had rain so my focus now is just the occasional weeding (never a shortage here) and most of all, watering.  Soaker hoses help enormously.

I actually did finish my poodle quilt (the notorious quilt that had the bleeding of the red dye).  I took all my friends' advice, finished the binding, washed it and everything came out.  It is a satisfying save!

Next week's goals include binding a lap quilt for Jenny.  I'd like to get more done on my star blocks but we'll see how the week goes!

Have a safe and happy day!

I LIke Thursdays: May 20, 2021

Happy Thursday!  It's I Like Thursday, hosted by Lee Anna, we  post some happiness on the internet!

First like:  The garden is mulched!

It's always a milestone in the spring when the garden is finally mulched.  Andy spread 46 cubic feet of mulch for me this year.  I don't know what I would have done without him!

Now I get to concentrate on puttering in the garden and enjoying the plants and wildlilfe!

This is Bun-Bun, our current rabbit in residence.  She seems very unafraid of me and will approach me if Scout isn't around.  No I don't pet her but I do talk to her.  I'm convinced she has a nest right off our patio...at least that is where she often is most days.  I just don't let Scout out before I check where Bun-Bun is outside.  I don't think Scout would hurt her.  She has plenty of chances to really catch the rabbits around here and doesn't.  But she would desperately like to smell Bun-Bun!  Anyway, I'm not taking the chance.

Having the mulched garden means I focus on keeping the garden watered and weeding.  It also means I can get back to sewing and reading again.  On Tuesday, I actually finished binding the poodle quilt!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Tuesday To-Do: May 18, 2021

It's Tuesday and time to post the To-Do List for the week!

I didn't get anything accomplished on my list last week.  The weather was cool enough that I've spent every day working in the garden.  Today Andy is coming over to mulch the back garden.  Since I don't have any photos to share of my sewing, I thought I would at least share some photos from the garden:

The tree peony (pink) and the rhododendrons are beginning to bloom!

And so is the the weigala!

Astrantia and Japanese fern!

Lots of wildlife is back.  So far 2 sightings of hummingbirds, lots of catbirds, robins, and finches like the yellow one up top!

So my main goal is just to finish up the garden before the heat moves in!  Then I can return to my sewing!

Have a wonderful day!

I Like Thursdays: May 13, 2021

It's Thursday and time to post things we like!  Hosted by Lee Anna, we share positive things in an attempt to fill the internet with good energy!

This week I'm grateful for service contracts.  Our furnace broke and the only reason I probably noticed it was because the temperature dropped and I realized the heat hadn't kicked on :(  How cold was it?  Well I was wearing long underwear, two sweatshirts in my house and baking like a crazy lady.

The good news is that we got the furnace repaired on Sunday and all the parts and labor were FREE!

Scout got a haircut!

Doesn't she look pretty?

My brother decided to help Scout out with my Mom's dog Kerry.  All Kerry wants to do is jump all over Scout and bite at her.  Scout then tires of this-- in about 10 minutes--and wants to go home.  Jim decided enough is enough and bought two different chew bones for them to work on and voila~! Peace reigned once more.  I could actually have a conversation with my mother in peace!

No matter which bone Scout has, it's the one that Kerry must have.

Scout has discovered a variety of ways to prevent bone theft.  Here's an interesting technique:
Lay on it while you gnaw it!
😂😂😂

In other good news, I went to the doctor for my first routine check-up since the pandemic and all my numbers are great!

I hope you are having a peaceful and happy spring!

Have a safe and happy day!

To-Do-Tuesday: May 10, 2021

It's To-Do-Tuesday! Time to post our goals for the week and head on over to Chrisknits to link up!

Things I accomplished last week:

The front garden is weeded and mulched!
I didn't do the mulching, I paid the young man next door to do it and he did a wonderful job!  I'll work on the back next but it is too cold and I'm suffering with allergies right now.

The Double Dip top is done and I'm going to get it ready for the quilter!  It photographed red but it's actually rust.

I still didn't finish binding the poodle quilt.  I wanted to work on that this weekend because it was going to be rainy and cold.  But then our furnace broke.  I was too cold to sew :(  Furnace is fixed so I'm hoping to get it finished in the next few days.

Next week goals.:

Today I cut the fabric for this star:
I'm going to work on piecing the hour glasses and HSTs for the quilt.  That's my main goal for the week besides binding the poodle quilt.

Have a safe and happy day!

I Like Thursdays: May 6, 2021

It's I Like Thursdays and time to fill the internet with happy thoughts!  Hosted by Lee Anna, here are the likes of this week!

Scout and I love to see the birds these days.  This week we spied a white goose which is rare for these parts!

Our favorite birds are the finches that visit our bird baths regularly!

Miss Wooly Bully.
Today Scout is getting groomed today!  She won't like it and hates to be seperated from me but she will feel so much better afterwards!

 I like spring rain!
We had hardly any rain during the month of April and are so relieved we had two days of gentle rain this week.  It was nice to have two days to catch up inside and even do some cleaning of the sewing room.

Today the young man that lives next door will be over to mulch the front yard for me.  I'm very picky about mulching and prefer to have it done after a good rain so that the mulch holds in the moisture.  It will be good to have at least the front yard done!

I hope you are having a wonderful spring and wish you a safe and happy weekend!

To-Do-Tuesday: May 4, 2021

It's Tuesday and time to do a To-Do List!  Hosted by Chris at Chrisknits, we post our list of projects for the week.

Last week's goals:  Weeding  👍 The front yard is weeded and I even set up soaker hoses there yesterday.  Then we finally got some much needed rain.  I still have work on the backyard to complete but it's great that we can start mulching the front garden.

Gardening time means I don't always get to accomplish my goals.  Here's what I didn't get finished:

The Double Dip top is half assembled.  I'm hoping to finish that this week.

The poodle with the red dye problem is half bound as well and I hope I can finish that binding this week.

I haven't even taken any photos of my sewing projects lately and I hope to catch up on that soon.

Have a safe and happy week!
