Thanks Dawn!

Our friend Dawn from Cottage State of Mind recently sent a care package to Helena and I.  Thanks Dawn!  The stickers are already going to good craft use and I love LOVE LOVE the bun holder.  I think that is one of the neatest things that has crossed my passed in a long time. SUCH INGENUITY and I love light blue too (how did you know?).

Check out Dawn's blog.  She has only been blogging for a year but her site is so polished and she is always sharing wonderful treasures.  The only way I can describe it is "Eye candy".  I love it!

Cherry Cobbler--for sweet cherries

I would take a pic for you but my camera is on the fritz again :(
But this was good and not too sweet!  I'm always looking for recipes for sweet cherries because we get good local crops of them!  This is what I'm taking for my coffee clutch with my Nana today.  Enjoy!

Sweet Cherry Cobbler

1 stick (1/2 C) of butter
1 C all purpose flour
1 t baking powder
1/2 C sugar
1 C milk
1/2 t cinnamon (or to your taste)
pinch of nutmeg

2.5 C sweet cherries, cleaned and pitted
1/2 C white sugar
1 T all purpose flour

I use a glass 9 x 13 pan for this recipe.
Preheat oven to 350 but put pan with butter stick in it in the oven to melt while oven is heating up (watch that it doesn't brown, usually takes me about 5 minutes)
When the butter has melted, bring back out of the oven.

Before you go further---remember this isn't to be mixed in the pan, it is to be layered so be sure not to stir things up in the glass pan!

To assemble the cobbler
Stir the cup of flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and spices.  Mix in the milk and stir well. Pour evenly over the butter WITHOUT STIRRING!  This will be the second layer of your cobbler (the first is your butter)

Mix cherries with remaining 1/2 c sugar and 1 T flour.  Evenly scoop over batter.  DON"T STIR IT!
Bake 50-60 minutes until golden brown!
Bon appetit!

Green and white garden

I didn't mean to have a green and white garden near the patio; it just turned out that way.  But I like it, especially during these hot and humid days.  I get up at dawn to water, weed, etc and by 9 am, hide away in the house.  The dogs are especially unhappy about the weather and I feel bad that they aren't getting more exercise (basically, they go out, run for 2 minutes and bang on the door to come back in).

Good thing I have a bunch of quilting projects to work on and a few research projects going as well.  It's good days to get some sewing done!

Songs for the Spill

Yesterday, local musicians and businesses joined together to raise money for the Audobon Society's effort to save wildlife affected by the BP tragedy. Among the perfomers, my son Peter's two man band, the Gremlins. It was a wonderful experience with great young people working in horrible heat to help the cause. Great job all!

Seasonal changes...

This time of year, I am rarely on the computer unless I am doing specific research work. I check the email in the morning and rush off to get to the garden and all the other things that I seem to have energy for: quilting, research, cleaning. It all changes when the days get short again. For now, I'm taking advantage of every drop of sunlight that I have...

Busy Couple of Weeks...

IT"S BUSY!!!! Last week I finished my power point program which I am giving this Friday and again to my Guild in August (the history of sunbonnet quilts). Brad came home unexpectedly so we got to spend the holiday weekend together (he had been headed to Equador but volcano ash had closed down the airport). He is off today again and I had to cancel babysitting Miles today.

Thursday I have a workshop for my one Guild and Friday and Saturday I am spending with my other guild during their big quilt show. There are just times when you need to get things done and right now is mine. I hope to catch up with everyone's blogs early next week. Have a safe and happy week!
