I Like Thursday: July 23, 2020

Good Morning!  It's "I Like Thursday" and a day to fill the internet with positive energy and thoughts!  Visit our hostess LeeAnna for more positive posts from bloggers!

Scout says hi!
I love this girl and she is my constant companion!

We are getting rain today!  It was a dry week but still we harvested the first peppers of the season!

And then there are the squirrels...they've been harvesting our tomatoes as soon as they start turning color:
And even when they are green:
"Operation Peppermint" has now commenced.  I read that squirrels don't like the smell of peppermint and to put cottonballs doused with peppermint oil around your tomatoes:
So far so good. We'll see how long this repellant lasts.
At least the squirrels aren't eating my flowers!

Sometimes when I am watering, I just catch a glimpse of something that makes me happy.  It can be sunlight and shadows on the plants or a combination of colors.  It is not sensational or dramatic but for those few moments, I am at peace.  I like that.

One of those things can be visitors to the garden.  On Sunday, we spied the first butterfly of the season!  I was getting anxious that we hadn't seen any yet so far this summer but after we saw the first one, it was like the floodgate opened and more appeared!  No photos of them yet though.

My niece Christina got a sewing machine and has taught herself to sew!  She's been talking to me about her projects and sent me some nice photos.  Isn't she doing a good job?!!!  Pillows, pet beds and toys and masks!  I'm really proud of her!

Of course this means I have to mail her fabric!!!

Hope you are having some moments of peace during this crazy time in our country.

Stay safe and have a good day!

I'm curious about that pattern you mentioned you are embroidering. I for one will enjoy seeing it sometime. Happy Stitching with it.
Meanwhile, I know what you mean about those little corners of the garden and how the sun plays with the colours and it giving us pleasure. No shortage of such little sights these days with all the sunshine and growing things. My coneflowers are just blooming. The squirrels have gotten into a couple of my pots and eaten the seeds I planted. What a shame they are munching on your veggies.

Lovely flowers in your garden. I hope the squirrels don’t find my tomatoes! The robins did a number on my strawberries this spring! Fingers crossed that the peppermint oil works!
Have a great weekend!

I love Scout too... she and Milo look so much alike. Peppermint oil... brilliant, hope it works. Pesky squirrels will chew through metal and plastic garbage cans so a tomato has no hope. Can you rub the oil right on the skin? a hot red tomato off the bush is life's little joy. Peppers! Congrats!

Hi Michele! Hi back to Scout. She looks like a happy girl and a fabulous companion. Your flowers look great and I know just what you mean about the sunlight reflection. Your peppers look fab and yummy. I didn't get anything planted this year and I'm sorry about that now. ~smile~ Roseanne

Pretty peppers- not crooked either. Mine were always crooked. I’ve not heard of peppermint as a repellant-that makes sense.
Great post.

Hello, Scout! She's such a pretty girl! Your flowers always look wonderful, but I am sorry the squirrels are eating your tomatoes. I didn't know that peppermint oil is supposed to keep them away - hope it works!

Hi Scout! I'll be very interested in how the peppermint oil works. I love your flowers. And is that a flamingo mask? Excellent.

Love your garden! Thanks for sharing it with us. I am doing sewing this spring and summer after not touching my machine in years - except for emergencies. Some days, I just do not want to leave my machine. I am working through years of stash.
I will try the peppermint oil. Something is chomping my beet greens almost down to the beet.

Keep sharing Mickie! Thanks again

Gorgeous flowers. Wait the butterflies were MIA? I have had them around for a couple of months, but then I have a field which I have allowed to return back to nature, with trees, wild roses, tall grass so lots of birds, butterflies and animals too. Scout is so pretty. I need to try the peppermint on the cotton balls something has been munching my tomatoes too. I am sure it is a squirrel. I spied droppings on my deck all around my tomato planters.
